The 20’s in Fashion

Beautiful coordinated and accessorized outfits were a feature of 1920’s ladies fashions. Hats, shoes, stockings, handbags, dresses and jewelry all came together in perfect harmony to create a unique and elegant style that can only be appreciated when seen in real-life or in color illustrations. The vibrancy is lost in black and white photographs that typically showcase the era.

The 1920s in North America, it is frequently referred to as the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz Age, while in Europe the period is sometimes referred to as the “Golden Age Twenties because of the economic boom following World War I. French speakers refer to the period as the “années folles” (“Crazy Years”), emphasizing the era’s social, artistic, and cultural dynamism.

Youth culture of The Lost Generation is marked by flappers, the Charleston, and the bob cut haircut.

In american literature the Lost Generation (which characterized disillusionment), was the name Gertrude Stein gave to American writers, poets, and artists living in Europe during the 1920s. Famous members of the Lost Generation include Cole Porter,Gerald Murphy, Patrick Henry Bruce, Waldo Peirce, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda Fitzgerald, Ezra Pound, John Dos Passos, and Sherwood Anderson.

The Roaring Twenties brought about several novel and highlySTAR 20 visible social and cultural trends with the big music trend of the Charleston. These trends, made possible by sustained economic prosperity, were most visible in major cities like New York, Chicago, Paris, Berlin and London where  jazz blossomed, and Art Deco peaked. For women, knee-length skirts and dresses became socially acceptable, as did bobbed hair with a marcel wave. The women who pioneered these trends were frequently referred to as flappers.

The Roaring Twenties redefined womanhood — a new woman evolved; it became more acceptable to smoke and drink in public, closer body contact in dancing, shorter hair, make-up, different styles of dress, and greater participation in the workforce – all contributed to the new woman.

The Fashionable woman of the 1920S wanted to look youthful, like an
androgynous schoolboy or a pubescent schoolgirl, flat-chested and hipless; at the same time she wanted independence and freedom. 1920’s Dresses were lighter (due to less material and new synthetic fabrics) and brighter and shorter than ever before. Fashion designers played with fabric colors, textures and patterns to create totally new styles of dress.

These facts forced changes in fashion. The result was radical. The corseted woman of the previous decade, with her hobble skirts and huge hats was compared to the old world.

The designed proportions of what was considered to be the perfect fashionable female body evolved from elaborately trimmed dress with its high waist position and ankle-length skirt, at the beginning of the period, to the simple sparsely decorated, shapeless tube with a hip-level “waist line” and a skirt barely covering the knee at the decade’s end.

At the same time new fabrics became available, such as kasha, a soft and extremely supple flannel made from mixture of wool and goat har, art silk an easily washed artificial material made from rayon, flamingo, a silk and wool mix with the fashionable crêpe look, satin doubleface, with satin on one side and moiré on the other, and wool, silk, cotton jersey. Coloured and patterned, this last fabric became a favorite of Coco Chanel.

From Andy Warhol to…Jeremy Scott: The pop art revolution

As many people, for not saying everyone here in America, yesterday I watched the super bowl game. At the halftime, Katy Perry gave a show sponsored by Pepsi.  It has been a very funny show involving dancers dressed up as sharks. She is bubbling, she is like a pink gum with pop rocks inside. What make her such an adorable crazy pin-up? She is obviously known for her pop songs but also and mainly because of her extravagant and colorful universe with her katy-perry-jeremy-scott-cosmo
funny and outrageous garments. It wasn’t long after the game that I realized that all her outfits on stage were made by Jeremy Scott. He has been her favorite designer since before she was famous. Back in 2008 she walked straight to him and said: ‘Hi, I’m a singer and you’re my favorite designer. One day, I hope to wear your things onstage. My name is Katy Perry.'” Bingo few years later he is dressing her almost exclusively. Amber-Rose-X-Rita-Ora-In-Jeremy-Scott-X-Moschino
This new pop art genius was named creative director of Moschino in October 2013 “It’s the only other label that uses humor in a way similar to mine.” says the fashion designer.

He likes comparing himself to Lichtenstein“I like to think of my work and the way people approach it in the same way people approach a Lichtenstein painting,” They are both using bright colors and comics in their arts. Indeed in his design most important thing is comic print, he often uses Pop culture icons for his inspiration as Mickey Mouse. Jeremy is to fashion what Andy Warhol is to art!

coke

He fusespop art with fashion to create some really outrageous designs. The overall style is very Avant- Garde… throughout whatever theme he choose for the collection. His inspirations range from the tv show “Happy Days” to Care Bears with machine guns to fast food! He understands the pop culture and mix element from our day to day consumption lives into fashion. Exactly the same way the pop artists approached art back in the 60s. He developed the term “fast fashion”  with his collection he presented as the creative director of Moschino. He added the famous American guilty pleasure logo with a witty golden-arches logo, a familiar red-and-yellow color scheme, and sweaters with slogans like Moschino: over 20 billion served.  The “fast fashion” motif extended to retail has been followed by other luxurious brands. Chanel used the supermarket theme for it collection in Paris.

His designs are worn by stars music scene who love his extravagant creations. We could mention his collaboration with famous MTV names and popular models, queens diva such as Katy Perry, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Rita Ora, etc. Gaga-Jeremy-Scott Big part of his career he also collaborated with Adidas and exclusive collections that place Adidas on the next level as chick and stylish sport brand. Karl Lagerfeld believes that Jeremy Scott is the only one who can replace him in Chanel scandalous runway spectacle. Jeremy Scott is seen as fashion’s last rebel. A man who knows no bounds and no conventions in regards to style, design or concepts.

Short getting shorter – Vintage Denim Culture

The first time I actually saw a girl wearing a denim short was on the movie “Point break”. It was during this famous scene where the girl come back from a surf session and toasted a cut off jean on showing off her toned legs in this tiny denim shorts. At this time, I thought it was the sexiest thing I have ever saw.  She shimmied her jean shorts up her wet and sand covered legs, tossed her bikini on the floor of her MG and rushed off to work. e30fdbfca4d7c3265f3ee879db1c5b28Wearing a jean short inspired me for being free, wild and tough! It was only long after that I finally got my first one. It didn’t do the same effect on me but hey!, big, thin, tan or pale skin it always make you feel pretty free, grunge and trendy. Sometimes this short got bad review. You can hear on a funday sunday loud slutty chicks with mini short tumbling around. In that scenario there is two reactions from men either they think the blond b*** girl is actually pretty sexy and attractive, the other half are offended and think those girls don’t have any father to smack them before they leave the house for wearing such a small piece of fabric to cover themselves. bc892043584aec8fb07ccf357538019cYe!s we see pretty much everything, yes a bit provocative but guys let us feel free and sexy for a second and it is anyway the follow-up of a trend.  Denim shorts became popular in the late 1960’s when fashion, style  and art all began to take on a new life of its own. People were fed up with war and politics as usual, the counterculture movement began to take full swing and people began to find ways to express themselves through their style and resource fashion.

Into the 80’s denim shorts became a fashion icon that was a must have for almost every wardrobe. It wasn’t long before men began wearing cutoff denim shorts as well, some as short as the girls cuts but some were longer.

In the 1990’s the denim shorts took on a new look during the end of the heavy metal era and beginning of the grunge scene. It was no longer popular to wear the short-shorts like the Daisy Dukes, but one could wear longer shorts, almost knee-length and either role them up or worn them torn.

At the turn of the millennium denim shorts took a short hiatus from the fashion scene, but not for long, in 2005 they slowly started to make their way back into hipster and fashion forward girls wardrobes.

So don’t bother anymore with an old jean you don’t wear anymore take a pair of scissor and make your customized cut off jean or if you don’t feel do confident doing that go to any second-hand shop, vintage shop. Here in San Diego go to Salvation Army, Thrift trader, Buffalo exchange.

The fLanNEL ShIRt – PLaiD

How many times did your boyfriend ask you not to borrow his flannel shirt. Well, sorry “bro” now isn’t only trendy but it is also unisex! We actually think it come from the deep of canada, we could definitely imagine a hairy woodcutter ginger dude wearing a colourful flannel shirt! Well wait a second; where this shirt actually come from? Flannel can be traced back to 17th century, where farmers wore flannel shirts to protect themselves from the elements.

But in the 1970s, there was one guy who really turned the modern world on to flannel shirts, and that was Kurt Cobain, the legendary Nirvana singer.  He made a whole  generation of men who weren’t exactly working in industries or mining to adopt the plaid flannel shirt as their uniform of masculinity.

My american husband would say that was definitely the teen outfit on the pacific north west when he grew up in the 80’s. So this little piece of fabric did find it way up. Now we see it everywhere but it really find the hit in the hipster city of Portland.

I have to admit that once you actually start wearing flannel shirt you realize few things, first they’re warm. Seems simple, but this trait is one of the best things that flannel shirts have going for them. An alternative to a classic cardigan, throw it on over your everyday outfit to stay toasty and stylish.

Here are some of the hot pics. The bohemian staple has gone full-on mainstream.

Over the last few years, fashion has looked eastward for inspiration, taking cues from countries like Japan and India for colour palettes and new silhouettes. One of the biggest trends to come out of this influence is the fashion kimono. Designers have taken this classic Japanese geisha attire and transformed it into an easy, fashionable item that can be paired with almost anything.

This season’s maxi kimono is a flowing, gypsy dream in our Bohemian Royale print of smokey charcoal hues and floral flecks of cream & chocolate.
